Weekend Violence in Utica: Teen Shot, Knife-Point Robbery Attempt, and Armed Suspect Arrested

Teen Shot Near Wynn Hospital, Investigation Ongoing
In the early morning hours of June 21st, a 16-year-old male walked into Wynn Hospital’s Emergency Room with a gunshot wound to his lower leg. Hospital staff alerted Utica Police around 2:00 AM.
According to officers, the teen claimed he was walking near the hospital when he was suddenly shot. He told police he was carried into the ER by two unidentified individuals and said he had no further details about who shot him or why.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit have launched an investigation and are actively canvassing the area around the hospital. Knife-Wielding Robbery Attempt in Oneida Square Ends in Arrest

What began as a street dispute quickly escalated into a robbery attempt in Oneida Square on the evening of June 21st.
Around 6:00 PM, officers with Utica’s Crime Prevention Unit were conducting proactive patrols in the area when they spotted a confrontation between a man on foot and another on a bicycle. According to police, the man on foot was seen yanking the victim off the bike and then pulling a box cutter, using it to threaten him while demanding money.
Officers quickly intervened, detaining the suspect identified as 32-year-old Rondale Jones of Utica, and recovered the knife from his back pocket. During a search of Jones’ belongings at the station, officers also discovered a glass smoking device containing a substance believed to be cocaine.
Jones now faces multiple charges, including:
• Attempted Robbery in the First Degree
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree
Man Arrested After Fleeing Twice, Found with Loaded Handgun

A late-night domestic disturbance on June 22nd led to a dramatic foot chase and the recovery of a loaded firearm.
Just after 11:00 PM, Utica Police responded to a call on the 1300 block of Oneida Street regarding a physical domestic incident. Upon arrival, officers attempted to detain the primary suspect, who immediately tried to flee. He was quickly caught and handcuffed, but then managed to run again and was apprehended one block away on Tracy Street.
During the second arrest, officers discovered a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine that the suspect had allegedly tried to discard. The man, 24-year-old Almonzo Davis of Utica, was taken into custody and now faces several charges, including:
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (x2)
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm
• Escape in the Third Degree
• Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree
• Resisting Arrest
