NEW HARTFORD, NY — New Hartford Police have arrested a 63-year-old Level 3 registered sex offender following a trespassing incident on Middle Settlement Road.

Officers were called to the residence around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after a woman reported waking up to find an unknown man standing in her bedroom. The man fled the home on a bicycle before police arrived. An area search was unsuccessful, but officers issued an alert to be on the lookout.

Later that day, around 5:00 p.m., an officer on patrol spotted a man along Seneca Turnpike matching the suspect’s description. The individual, identified as Richard Seymour, was detained and questioned. Police determined he was the same person who had entered the residence earlier.

Seymour, who is classified as a Level 3 Sexually Violent Offender and under state parole supervision, was charged with:

• Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree (Class A misdemeanor)

• Violation of Parole Conditions (warrant issued by NYS Parole)

He was processed at the New Hartford Police Department and later arraigned at Oneida County’s Centralized Arraignment Part Court. Seymour remains in custody at this time.
