UTICA, NY — On June 5th, 2025, Utica Police responded to a disturbing animal cruelty complaint at a home on the 600 block of Lenox Avenue. A landlord preparing an apartment for new tenants made a horrifying discovery: a deceased dog locked in a crate and sealed inside a closet with spray foam.
According to police, the apartment had been vacant for several weeks after the previous tenant moved out. While inspecting the unit, the landlord opened the closet and found the dog’s remains, locked away and hidden behind a foamed-shut door.
Given the nature of the case, it was immediately handed over to the Criminal Investigations Division. After the investigation, police charged 30-year-old Anaiya Harris of Utica, the former tenant, with Aggravated Abuse to an Animal.
