Utica Woman Arrested After Violent Robbery in Neighbor’s Apartment

UTICA, NY — On Tuesday, around 12:50 p.m., Utica Police responded to a neighbor dispute on the 1400 block of Genesee Street.
When officers arrived, a female victim reported that a woman she knew was caught inside her apartment attempting to steal clothing.
A confrontation quickly turned violent when the suspect struck the victim in the head with a cast she was wearing. As the victim fell to the ground, the suspect continued the assault by kicking her in the stomach before fleeing with the stolen clothes.
Police were given a description of the suspect and located her nearby, still carrying the stolen items. The 22-year-old suspect, Fatima Bowens of Utica, was detained and positively identified before being taken to the Utica Police Department.
Bowens was charged with Robbery in the third degree and Harassment in the second degree.
