SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. — On Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at approximately 11:14 p.m., New York State Police initiated a traffic stop on Main Street in the village of Sylvan Beach after observing a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker.
Troopers identified the driver as Thomas J. Spear, 58, of Blossvale. During questioning, Spear reportedly gave inconsistent answers and avoided eye contact. A passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Brian A. Blowers, 50, of Taberg, refused to answer questions or cooperate with law enforcement.
Through investigation, Troopers confirmed Blowers' identity and discovered he had an active warrant out of the City of Oneida. He was taken into custody, and a subsequent search revealed a clear plastic container with Methamphetamine in his pocket.
A search of the vehicle uncovered additional narcotics. Troopers located a clear plastic bag containing Methamphetamine between the driver’s seat and the center console, along with another bag stored in a compartment above the visors.
Both Spear and Blowers were arrested and transported to SP Sylvan Beach.
Spear was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) and Operating a Vehicle Without a Valid Inspection. He was issued appearance tickets and released, pending a court date in the Village of Sylvan Beach.
Blowers was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. He was released with an appearance ticket and then turned over to the Oneida City Police Department on the outstanding warrant.
