UTICA, NY — On the evening of August 13, 2025, around 9:00 PM, Utica Police responded to a report of a man waving a handgun near 811 Court Street. Witnesses described a shirtless male wearing dark sweatpants.

Upon arrival, the first officer on scene spotted a man matching that description walking along the sidewalk. While this individual did not have a weapon on him at the time, another person nearby drew the officer’s attention. The second individual appeared to be concealing something under his waistband and moved away suspiciously.

When officers attempted to engage the second person, he fled, prompting a brief foot pursuit. He was quickly detained, and a frisk revealed a loaded 9mm handgun. The suspect and the firearm were secured and transported to the Utica Police Department.

Further investigation, including a review of surveillance footage, showed that the handgun had been handed off by the shirtless male to the individual who was found carrying it. The first suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Trimard Campbell of Utica, was taken into custody and transported to the police department.

Campbell faces multiple charges:

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (two counts: high-capacity magazine, prior conviction)

• Criminal Possession of a Firearm

• Criminal Sale of a Firearm to a Minor

The second individual, a 17-year-old, cannot be publicly identified due to his age. He was charged with:

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (high-capacity magazine)

• Criminal Possession of a Firearm
