Two Arrested in Narcotics Investigation on Whitesboro Street

UTICA, NY — June 11, 2025 — Members of the Utica Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, working in coordination with the Crime Prevention Unit, conducted a targeted stop on June 10 in the 1400 block of Whitesboro Street as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation.
During the stop, officers conducted a search of two individuals and their vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of methamphetamine and suspected heroin.
Following the search, both individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Utica Police Department. The following charges were filed:

William Nichols, 53, of Utica
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (2 counts)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (2 counts)

Joseph Rios, 44, of Remsen
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (methamphetamine)
