UTICA, NY — A routine traffic stop in Utica led to the arrest of a man on multiple drug charges Thursday evening.
According to police, on August 14, 2025, at around 7:30 p.m., officers with the Crime Prevention Unit pulled over a vehicle near Court Street and Varick Street for New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. During the stop, officers learned the driver, 46-year-old David Burr of Utica, was operating with a suspended license. He was taken into custody.
A search following the arrest uncovered a baggie containing suspected cocaine in Burr’s pocket. Due to the quantity of narcotics found, an investigator with the Special Investigations Unit was called in to assist.
Burr was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (sale and weight), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, and multiple traffic violations.
