JULY 28, 2025
SHERRILL, NY – On July 27, 2025, a traffic stop turned into a major bust after New York State Police pulled over a 2024 Nissan Altima in the city of Sherrill following a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert from Madison County 911. The vehicle had reportedly been driving erratically in the city of Oneida.
Behind the wheel was Edwight LaFlair, 27, of Syracuse. Troopers noted immediate signs of impairment, and LaFlair failed a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. He was promptly arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. A later breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .12%.
But what started as a DWI quickly escalated. While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, troopers uncovered a disturbing haul:
▪︎ Nearly 140 grams of cocaine
▪︎ Over 12 grams of fentanyl
▪︎ Two loaded Glock handguns (Models 17 and 40)
▪︎ A defaced serial number on one firearm
▪︎ A 33-round high-capacity magazine
▪︎ Ammunition and various drug-related paraphernalia
LaFlair now faces a long list of serious charges, including:
▪︎ DWI (Misdemeanor)
▪︎ Willful Defacement of a Firearm (D Felony)
▪︎ Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree (C Felony)
▪︎ Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree (D Felony)
▪︎ Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (B Felony)
▪︎ Multiple traffic violations
He was taken to the Oneida County Jail, where he awaits arraignment in CAP Court.
