Suspect Arrested Following Robbery and Forgery Incident at Court Street Stewart’s Shop

Utica, NY — On Monday, June 2, 2025, at approximately 5:10 a.m., Utica Police Department units were dispatched to the Stewart’s Shop on Court Street following reports of a forgery and robbery.
According to Utica Police, a male suspect attempted to use another individual’s identity and credit card to purchase cigarettes at the convenience store. When store employees questioned the transaction, the suspect allegedly went behind the counter and stole multiple packs of cigarettes. As employees attempted to intervene, the suspect reportedly began striking them before fleeing the scene with stolen merchandise.
A “Be On the Lookout” (BOLO) alert was issued, and responding patrol officers quickly located a man matching the suspect’s description a short distance away. When officers attempted to detain him, the suspect fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, he was apprehended and taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Jahzire Brown of Rome. He was transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.
The investigation was assigned to a detective with the Criminal Investigations Division. Upon conclusion, Brown was formally charged with the following offenses:
• Robbery in the Third Degree
• Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fourth Degree
• Identity Theft in the Second Degree
• Resisting Arrest
