State Police Crack Down on Reckless Off-Road Riders in Town of Russia

Town of Russia, NY — June 20, 2025 — The New York State Police in Herkimer are sounding the alarm after receiving a wave of complaints about unlicensed off-road vehicles tearing through neighborhoods in the Town of Russia, especially in the areas around Russia and Military Roads.

According to reports, many of the riders are believed to be juveniles operating ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes recklessly, often without helmets or safety gear, and in clear violation of New York State Vehicle & Traffic Laws.

With the summer months ahead, State Police say they’ll be increasing patrols in the area, aiming to both educate the community and enforce the law. Those caught riding illegally or enabling others to do so can expect consequences.

In coordination with the Herkimer County District Attorney’s Office, authorities plan to investigate individual cases and pursue criminal charges when appropriate, especially in situations involving juveniles and adults who may be facilitating the behavior.

Residents and motorists are urged to help keep the community safe by reporting any illegal or dangerous riding to 911 or by calling State Police in Herkimer directly at 315-866-7112.
