Stabbing on North Prospect Sends One to Hospital, Suspect in Custody

HERKIMER, NY — June 29, 2025 — What began as a calm Sunday morning on the 400 block of North Prospect Street quickly escalated into a crime scene, drawing multiple emergency vehicles to the area following a violent altercation.
Police say a 26-year-old man was found with three stab wounds to the hand, chest, and back. He was flown by MercyFlight to Upstate Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.
Due to the quick response by law enforcement, the scene was quickly secured and the suspect was taken into custody without any further issues.
Herkimer Police identified the suspect as Jasiah Perkett, 20, of Herkimer. He was arrested in connection with the stabbing, which occurred at 444 N Prospect St, and is now facing several felony charges, including:
• Assault in the Second Degree
• Menacing in the Second Degree
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree
Perkett is currently awaiting arraignment.
