Shots Fired at Rome Byrne Dairy: Suspect in Custody Following Quick Investigation

ree

ROME, NY — A Saturday evening erupted in gunfire at a local Byrne Dairy, but thanks to quick police work, a suspect is now in custody.

On June 14, 2025, at approximately 6:12 p.m., Rome Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots at Byrne Dairy, located at 216 Erie Boulevard East. When officers arrived, they learned from witnesses that two vehicles had been involved in the altercation and had both fled the scene before police arrived.

Video surveillance and witness statements revealed a tense and dangerous exchange. One vehicle was seen parked in the lot, occupied by a lone male, when a second vehicle pulled in and stopped directly in front. Without warning, a man exited the second car and opened fire on the parked vehicle as its driver attempted to escape.

Remarkably, despite the hail of bullets and damage to the vehicle, no one was injured.

Rome Police's Patrol and Detective Divisions worked quickly to identify the vehicles and the individuals involved. Their investigation led them to 21-year-old Nameer X. Lewis of Lee, who was arrested two days later, on June 16.

Lewis now faces multiple charges, including Menacing in the 2nd degree, Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, and Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree. He was processed and held for arraignment in Rome City Court on June 17.
