ree

Utica, NY — In the early hours of Sunday, June 8, 2025, Utica Police officers responded to two separate burglary incidents reported within minutes of each other. One occurred on the 800 block of Huntington Street at approximately 3:40 a.m., and the other on the 600 block of Sunset Avenue at approximately 3:50 a.m.

In both cases, investigators believe the suspect gained entry to second-floor apartments by using a ladder. The victims in each incident reported hearing noises inside their residences and, upon checking, discovered an unknown male inside their homes. When confronted, the suspect fled with various stolen items.

Following the second incident on Sunset Avenue, officers obtained a detailed description of the suspect. While canvassing the area, they located a man matching the description. The individual attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended after a brief pursuit.

Further investigation confirmed that the detained individual was responsible for both burglaries. The suspect, identified as Joseph Farda, 39, of Rome, was transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.

A detective from the Criminal Investigations Division was assigned to the case. Farda was subsequently charged with the following offenses:

• Burglary in the Second Degree (2 counts)

• Petit Larceny (2 counts)
