UTICA, NY — On July 7th, 2025, Utica Police were called to the Price Chopper in North Utica following a reported theft. Loss Prevention staff recognized the suspect as someone previously caught shoplifting at the store, a person who had also been banned from the premises. Given his history and the department’s commitment to cracking down on repeat offenders, the case was quickly handed over to the Criminal Investigations Division for potential burglary charges.

Ten days later, on July 17th, members of Utica’s Crime Prevention Unit and GIVE task force spotted the suspect, 31-year-old Nathan Perry of Utica, riding a bicycle on Arthur Street. Officers were also aware that Perry had multiple outstanding warrants.

When they tried to stop him, Perry took off on the bike, sparking a brief chase. With help from the New York State Police, officers were able to apprehend him.

During a search following his arrest, police discovered a substance believed to be crack cocaine in his possession.

Perry now faces several charges, including:

▪︎ Burglary in the Third Degree

▪︎ Two counts of Petit Larceny

▪︎ Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree

▪︎ Resisting Arrest

▪︎ Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree

He was transported to the Utica Police Department for processing.
