
Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle in Church Parking Lot, Driver Flees Scene

NEW HARTFORD, NY — June 25, 2025 — On Wednesday night at approximately 9:20 p.m., emergency crews from the New Hartford Police and Fire Departments were called to the parking lot of New Hartford Presbyterian Church on Park Street following reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.
When first responders arrived, police quickly secured the area and began gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses. Meanwhile, firefighters rendered aid to the injured pedestrian.
Investigators determined that 82-year-old Barbara Wuest of Utica was struck by a vehicle in the church lot. Disturbingly, the driver left the scene before authorities arrived. Wuest sustained serious injuries to her lower body and was airlifted by Life Net helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Fortunately, her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The case is now in the hands of the New Hartford Police Criminal Investigation Division. Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen the incident or has relevant information to contact the department and request to speak with an investigator.
