Oriskany, N.Y. — May 14, 2025 – On Wednesday, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office participated in a Mock DWI Crash at Oriskany Central School District, an impactful educational event aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.
High school students observed a simulated crash scene that portrayed the devastating consequences of driving while intoxicated or distracted. The demonstration featured student actors, emergency responders, and a realistic crash scenario that included a “fatality” and “serious injuries” to passengers—highlighting just how quickly lives can be altered by one poor decision behind the wheel.
The event was a collaborative effort involving multiple local agencies and community partners. Special thanks were extended to:
• Student actors from Oriskany Central School
• Village of Oriskany Police Department
• Oriskany Fire Department
• Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps
• Mercy Flight Central – Rome, NY
• Oneida County Emergency Services / STOP DWI Program
• Oriskany teachers and staff
The Sheriff's Office emphasized the importance of these hands-on experiences in helping young drivers understand the serious and often irreversible consequences of impaired driving.
