Man Charged After Brutal Daylight Stabbing in Utica

UTICA, NY – A violent altercation in broad daylight led to serious injuries and criminal charges this week following a stabbing incident.



Around 1:50 p.m. on July 1st, 2025, Utica Police and Fire units were called to the 1300 block of Oneida Street for a reported stabbing. First responders arrived to find a man suffering from multiple stab and slash wounds to the head and neck.



Through witness interviews and a review of nearby surveillance footage, investigators learned that a physical confrontation between two men escalated, ending with one man repeatedly stabbing the other.



Given the severity of the victim’s injuries, the case was immediately turned over to the Utica Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. Less than 24 hours later, on July 2nd, detectives located and arrested 39-year-old Jurell Barber of Utica.



Barber now faces the following charges:


• Assault in the Second Degree


• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree


Police have not yet released details about the condition of the victim.
