Town of Augusta, NY – June 18, 2025 – Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol reports that a suspect is in custody following a foot chase and Taser deployment in the Town of Augusta.
The incident stems from a reported physical domestic dispute that occurred on June 15, 2025. Sheriff's Deputies responded the following day, and on June 17 around 3:00 p.m., deputies, along with New York State Police K9 units, attempted to locate and arrest the suspect, identified as Philip N. Mavica of Ilion.
When law enforcement closed in, Mavica fled on foot. A brief pursuit ensued before a deputy successfully deployed a Taser, allowing officers to take Mavica into custody without further incident.
He was first transported to Wynn Hospital for evaluation. Upon medical clearance, Mavica was taken to the Kurt Wyman Law Enforcement Building where he was charged with:
• Obstruction of Governmental Administration
• Resisting Arrest
• Criminal Mischief (2 counts)
• Harassment (2 counts)
Authorities say Mavica also had an active warrant from June 9, 2025, for a previous incident in which he allegedly failed to comply with law enforcement. Additional charges from that case include:
• Reckless Driving
• Unlawful Fleeing from a Police Officer
• Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law Violations
Mavica is scheduled to appear in Sangerfield Town Court. In the meantime, he is being held at Oneida County Jail awaiting centralized arraignment.
Assisting agencies included the Oneida County Sheriff’s Patrol Division, New York State Police, Oriskany Falls Fire Department, Main Street Auto Care, and Central Oneida County Ambulance.
