Knife Incident at Consumer Square: 12-Year-Old Charged After Menacing Report

New Hartford, NY — A troubling incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon, July 1st, 2025, at Consumer Square, where police responded around 3:00 PM to a report of menacing involving two young males.
According to New Hartford Police, a female victim reported that while walking through the parking lot, she noticed two boys nearby. One appeared to say something to her, but when she responded, the situation escalated. One of the boys allegedly pulled out a knife and became verbally aggressive toward her before both suspects fled the scene on foot.
New Hartford Police quickly began searching the area and successfully located and identified the suspect. A knife believed to be involved in the incident was also recovered nearby.
The suspect, a 12-year-old male, has been charged with:
• Menacing in the Second Degree (a misdemeanor under NYS Penal Law 120.14)
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (a misdemeanor under NYS Penal Law 265.01)
Due to his age, the juvenile’s identity is being withheld. He was released to his parents and is scheduled to answer the charges through the Oneida County Probation Department later this month.
