UTICA, NY — A pair of suspected burglars didn’t get far Tuesday morning after a watchful homeowner and quick police work brought their alleged crime to a quick end.
Around 8:30 a.m. on August 12, Utica Police were called to a home on the 900 block of Schuyler Street for a burglary investigation. The victim told officers he’d reviewed surveillance footage showing two people slipping into his detached garage and taking property.
After viewing the video, police issued a “be on the lookout” alert for the suspects. Within a short time, additional officers and investigators spotted the pair and moved in. Both were taken into custody without incident and brought to the Utica Police Department.
Following the investigation, 53-year-old Jonathan Young of Utica and 43-year-old Jeremy Godwin of Rome were each charged with burglary in the third degree and petit larceny.
