WESTMORELAND, NY — A Georgia man is facing felony charges after allegedly bringing an unregistered firearm into Oneida County.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a menacing complaint at a residence in the Town of Westmoreland around 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. During their investigation, they discovered that 25-year-old Jordi Pena of Lawrenceville, Georgia, was in possession of a handgun that was neither registered in New York nor covered by a state-issued pistol permit.

Pena was taken into custody and transported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office in Whitestown, where investigators from the Criminal Investigative Unit took over the case. He was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony.

In addition, deputies charged Pena with Illegal Discharge of a Firearm under New York’s Environmental Conservation Law.

Following processing, Pena was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to return to Westmoreland Town Court at a later date.
