UTICA, NY — Early Wednesday morning, Utica Police responded to a domestic incident on the 1100 block of State Street. Around 2:20 a.m., officers met with a woman who reported a frightening altercation with her boyfriend. According to the victim, the argument escalated over the future of their relationship when the 38-year-old suspect, later identified as Christopher Geiger of Utica, grabbed a knife and began threatening her while moving around the apartment.
The situation quickly turned violent. Geiger reportedly raised the knife and charged at the woman, putting her in immediate fear for her life. As she tried to call 911, he snatched the phone from her hand. The suspect then choked her until she bit him to escape and managed to grab the knife, cutting her hand in the process. She was eventually able to call for help and flee the residence.
Police quickly obtained a suspect description and located Geiger a short distance away, taking him into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, petit larceny, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree criminal mischief for preventing an emergency call.
