Brotherly Dispute Turns Violent in Herkimer, Suspect Arrested in Rome

HERKIMER, NY — In the early hours of June 29, 2025, a domestic dispute turned violent after a stabbing at a residence on State Route 5 in the town of Herkimer. Police arrived at 3:28 a.m. to find a 45-year-old man inside the home suffering from two stab wounds.
According to State Police, the injured man told troopers that a heated altercation with his brother escalated when his sibling allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed him before fleeing the scene.
MOVAC Ambulance quickly responded and transported the victim to Wynn Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Keith M. Lamont of Frankfort, was later tracked down in the city of Rome with help from the Rome Police Department. Lamont was taken into custody without further incident.
He was transported to State Police barracks in Herkimer and formally charged with:
• Assault in the Second Degree (Class D Felony)
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor)
Following his arraignment in Herkimer Town Court, Lamont was remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
