HASTINGS, N.Y. — A 23-year-old woman in upstate New York is facing charges after authorities say she was driving under the influence of cannabis during a crash that killed a two-year-old child.
Kali Seaman, of Schroeppel, was arrested on Wednesday, August 6, and charged with first-degree vehicular manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on July 9. The incident took place along State Route 49 in Hastings, located in Oswego County, roughly 30 miles north of Syracuse.
According to investigators, Seaman was behind the wheel of a 2011 Chrysler minivan when she lost control of the vehicle. The minivan overturned and struck a utility pole. A two-year-old boy inside the vehicle died as a result of the crash.
An investigation determined that Seaman was impaired by cannabis at the time of the incident, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office.
Seaman turned herself in to authorities and was arraigned in Oswego County CAP Court. She is currently being held at the Oswego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.
