Two Men Dead After Stabbing Each Other in Heated Southern Tier Altercation

August 9, 2025

CHENANGO, NY — A violent confrontation outside a Chenango home late Thursday night left two men dead in what authorities are calling a double stabbing.

According to New York State Police, the incident unfolded around 11:15 p.m. on August 7, 2025, at a residence on Castle Creek Road. Investigators say 48-year-old Jeffrey Ryan of Binghamton drove to the home of 50-year-old Harry Swan, where a heated argument quickly escalated into a physical fight.

During the altercation, Ryan allegedly stabbed Swan. Police say Swan then retreated into his home, retrieved a knife, and stabbed Ryan in return.

Swan was pronounced dead at the scene. Ryan was rushed to Wilson Hospital in critical condition, but he later died from his injuries.

The investigation remains active, and State Police say more information will be released as it becomes available.
