Woman Arrested for Attempted Murder After Stabbing Two NYS Troopers

Bolivar, NY – May 17, 2025 — A 31-year-old Bolivar woman is facing a series of felony and misdemeanor charges following a violent encounter with New York State Police that left two troopers seriously injured.



According to the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Julia C. Groff was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly stealing a vehicle and violently resisting arrest. Groff has been charged with:



• Attempted Murder in the First Degree (2 counts, A-2 Felony)


• Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer (2 counts, B Felony)


• Menacing a Police Officer (2 counts, C Felony)


• Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree – Motor Vehicle (E Felony)


• Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (A Misdemeanor)


• Resisting Arrest (A Misdemeanor)


• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (A Misdemeanor)



At approximately 3:25 p.m. on May 17, Troopers from SP Amity responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at Crosby’s Gas Station in the Village of Bolivar. Upon arrival, Troopers located the stolen black 2000 Chevy Silverado at a gas pump. The operator, later identified as Groff, resisted arrest and reportedly stabbed Trooper Jacob Klock, a nine-year veteran, just above the eye, and Trooper Michael Rich, an 11-year veteran, in the head.



Trooper Rich discharged his service weapon during the attack, but Groff was not struck. She was taken into custody at the scene with minor injuries.


Both troopers were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital and are being treated for serious injuries.



Groff was arraigned and remanded to the Allegany County Jail without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 21, 2025, in the Town of Bolivar Court.


The investigation is being assisted by the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the NYSP Employee Assistance Program, the Allegany County District Attorney’s Office, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department.
