Watertown Man Arrested for Attempted Kidnapping of Child

Watertown, NY — June 17, 2025 — Quick action by a passerby helped stop an attempted kidnapping in Watertown on Monday, June 16th, leading to the arrest of a 50-year-old city resident.



According to the Watertown Police Department, the incident occurred at the intersection of S. Rutland Street and Academy Street, where an 11-year-old boy was reportedly grabbed by an older man who attempted to drag him away. The suspect released the child after a woman driving by intervened, shouting at the man and likely preventing a far more serious outcome.



The suspect, identified as Daniel Scott Tibbles, was later located on S. Hamilton Street and taken into custody. Tibbles, who resides at 142 Mechanic Street, was charged with Attempted Kidnapping in the Second Degree, a class C felony.



He was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail.



The investigation was a collaborative effort with assistance from Jefferson County Child Protective Services, the District Attorney’s Office, the Child Advocacy Center of Northern New York, and the Jefferson County Department of Emergency Management 911 Dispatch Center.
