Rome Police Charge Utica Man in Violent Shoplifting Incident at Tractor Supply

ROME, NY — Around 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Rome Police were called to Tractor Supply on Erie Boulevard West for a reported theft. When officers arrived, they discovered that a male suspect had loaded up a shopping cart with merchandise and exited the store without paying.
The situation escalated when a store employee attempted to intervene. The suspect allegedly shoved the employee to the ground while fleeing, resulting in minor injuries.
Following an investigation by the Rome Police Detective Division, the suspect was identified as 24-year-old Jahzire E. Brown of Utica. Brown was already in custody at the Oneida County Jail, arrested by Utica Police on an unrelated matter the next day, Friday, June 27.
While in jail, Brown was formally charged by Rome Police with Robbery in the 3rd Degree, a Class D felony, in connection with the incident. He was arraigned at the jail as part of the centralized arraignment process.
