CICERO, NY — June 13, 2025 — A Cicero Police Department officer was arrested late Friday night after reporting for duty allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

At approximately 11:25 p.m., the Cicero Police Department alerted the New York State Police with concerns about Officer James Kazmirski, 45, who had reportedly shown up for his shift while impaired.

According to officials, a fellow patrol officer noticed signs of intoxication as Kazmirski arrived for duty. The officer reported these observations to a patrol sergeant, who then notified the Chief of Police. The Chief contacted the New York State Police to investigate.

Before action could be taken, Kazmirski began responding to a service call and was seen operating a marked patrol vehicle. He was stopped in the parking lot by a department supervisor, who confirmed that he showed visible signs of impairment. The Chief of Police and State Police troopers arrived shortly thereafter.

Troopers on scene observed clear indicators of intoxication, including slurred speech, glassy eyes, and the odor of alcohol. Officer Kazmirski was taken into custody and transported to the State Police barracks in North Syracuse for processing.

While in custody, Kazmirski consented to a chemical breath test, which registered a blood alcohol content of 0.21%, more than twice the legal limit. He was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a misdemeanor under New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law, and was released on an appearance ticket.
