Body Found at Syracuse Charter School, Carbon Monoxide Suspected

Syracuse, NY – January 7, 2025 – A tragic discovery was made Tuesday morning shortly before 8 a.m. at the Syracuse Academy of Science, a charter high school on the city’s west side. A night cleaner was found deceased in the cafeteria, prompting an immediate response from Syracuse Police and Fire departments.
The body was discovered by a staff member shortly after the school opened. Authorities have not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
Additionally, five staff members were transported to a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning.
As a precaution, the school was evacuated, and students and staff were sent home for the day. Emergency crews worked to assess the building’s safety, focusing on possible carbon monoxide exposure.
