Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in Utica

UTICA, NY – On Friday, September 27th, 2024, at approximately 8:50 AM, Utica Police Department (UPD) officers were dispatched to the GPO Federal Credit Union located at 2711 Genesee St. following reports of a bank robbery.

Upon arrival, police learned that a suspect, wearing a green and white flannel jacket, entered the bank, threatened the use of a weapon, and demanded money. The suspect was given an undisclosed amount of cash and quickly fled the scene in a light blue vehicle.

The Utica Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, in collaboration with the Mohawk Valley Crime Analysis Center (MVCAC), launched an investigation, which included a review of surveillance footage and a search for similar vehicles. MVCAC successfully identified the vehicle involved in the robbery. Further video analysis revealed that the vehicle's registered owner, Cheryl Nortz, age 64, of Utica, was the individual responsible for the robbery.

Later that evening, Nortz was located and taken into custody. A search warrant was executed, uncovering evidence linking her to the crime. Nortz has since been charged with Robbery in the Third Degree.
