Caught in the Act: Utica Man Charged After Smashing Into Dollar General

UTICA, NY — On the night of June 28th, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., Utica Police were dispatched to the Dollar General on the 1500 block of Genesee Street after a burglary alarm was triggered and reports came in of a shattered front window.


When officers arrived, they didn’t need to search far. A man was seen climbing out of the broken window with stolen merchandise in hand. He was immediately detained on the spot and transported to the Utica Police Department for questioning.


Following the investigation, 42-year-old Joshua Marcantel of Utica was charged with:


• Burglary in the Third Degree


• Petit Larceny
